Energy crisis offers oppertunies for employers

This difficult time also offers opportunities to accelerate the energy transition. For example, Floading focuses on offering charging solutions to employers, so that employees can charge their car for a reduced rate during this difficult time.

"Winter is coming" is a famous quote from the popular TV series Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, many people are currently really looking forward to the coming winter with fear and trembling. What can we expect in the future, now that the price of oil and gas is going through the roof? However, we should not just be doomed. This difficult time also offers opportunities to accelerate the energy transition. For example, Floading focuses on offering charging solutions to employers. Companies play an important role in providing sustainable solutions to their employees. And together with us you can work towards a more sustainable world.

Sky-high energy bills for Dutch households

More and more factories are forced to close their doors because of the unaffordable gas prices. Meanwhile, the average Dutch citizen is shocked by the sky-high energy bill. Research by the Milieu Centraal information center shows that single people have to deal with an average energy price increase of no less than 38 percent. The average for a multi-person household is 33 percent. According to a spokesperson for knowledge and advice center Nibud, low-income households spend 10 to 15 percent of their income on energy.

Demand for sustainable solutions is increasing

We are at a turning point in history. The aftermath of the Corona crisis is still being felt and the end of the war in Ukraine is far from in sight. Meanwhile, ordinary citizens pay themselves blue in energy, petrol and groceries. These are darker times, but there are also bright spots. For example, the demand for sustainable solutions has increased considerably in recent years. More and more companies and individuals are opting for better insulation, solar panels and electric vehicles. Some figures about renewable energy:

  • The share of renewable sources in the production of electricity increased from 33 percent to 41 percent in the first six months of 2022 compared to the first half of 2021.
  • In June 2022, solar panels supplied no less than 25.4 percent of all electricity produced in the Netherlands.
  • More and more Dutch people are buying an electric car. In the first half of 2022, the number of newly registered cars was no less than 82.9 percent higher than in the same period the year before.
  • In January 2022, the Netherlands had more than 725.6 thousand electric and hybrid cars. An increase of no less than 38 percent compared to 2021.
  • In the European Union, 10 percent of all cars sold are fully electric. This amounts to about 450,000 copies, more than 30 percent more than was sold in the first six months of 2021.

Together on the road to a sustainable, quiet and clean world

The above percentages are positive. Moreover, there are sufficient means to limit the maximum temperature increase on earth this century to 1.5 degrees Celsius. To do that, we need to take action. How nice would it be if employers, employees and citizens would join forces when it comes to solar energy, wind energy, energy conservation and the transition to a quiet and clean world with electric transport. The good news is that the electric car is on the rise. On January 1, 2022, 1 in 12 cars in the Netherlands turned out to be electric or hybrid. And of the cars that were registered in the first half of 2022, 20 percent turned out to be fully electric. For hybrid cars, this percentage was 37 percent. That is certainly positive!

An electric car: the perfect sustainable solution

An electric car is very sustainable. Did you know that this type of vehicle emits about 60 percent less CO2 during its entire life than a car with an exhaust? By way of comparison: a fuel car releases a total of 52,000 kilos of CO2, while an electric mid-range car only releases 19,000 kilos of CO2. A world of difference that you simply cannot ignore. However, not everyone is able to charge an electric car at home. Sometimes the energy costs are very high or there is no private driveway available to place a charging station. A shame, because an electric car is one of the sustainable solutions that our planet desperately needs.

The role of the employer in the transition to electric transport

Floading thinks in solutions and not in limitations. This makes it possible to access charging stations even without a ramp. As an employer, you play a crucial role in this. We are happy to help you install the charging infrastructure at your company. Purchasing charging stations is an important moment as you contribute to the transition to electric transport. Your employees can then charge at a reduced rate. Making charging stations available is a very sustainable solution because you save a lot of energy. As a result, you will earn back your investment in no time. Would you like to go one step further? Make the charging stations available to local residents or other customers. In this way you create a sustainable community in a fairly simple way that benefits everyone. And remember: the energy transition is more like a marathon than a sprint. It is a matter of working together, acting smart and looking ahead.

Look to the future and choose a sustainable world

You may now be thinking: 'but we are not a gas station after all!'. That's true, but in the end that's not the point. The fact that you dare to take the step to invest in charging stations means that you are working on a sustainable future. Get rid of this thought and opt for a sustainable world. Floading is happy to look at the possibilities for the company with you and help you on your way with selecting and installing the right charging infrastructure.
