TDS emission-free in Amsterdam
TDS takes a big step forward in emission-free distribution

Collaboration Bluekens EV indispensable for implementation and maintenance of unique BYD ETM6

Top Delivery Services (TDS) takes a major step forward in zero-emission distribution in cities with the purchase of ten BYDs ETM6 – new to the Dutch market – to deliver zero-emission products for IKEA in Amsterdam. René Wissink, director of TDS: “We have already done a lot in the field of electric transport, but this is an exciting development because we instantly become one of the major players in the market for emission-free distribution. The collaboration with strategic partner Bluekens EV is indispensable in this regard.”

In the search for a solution for the IKEA order, TDS came to Bluekens EV. In addition to being a supplier of the BYD ETM6, this Breda-based company is an expert in emission-free city logistics and also provides fleet management. Wissink: “We would not have been able to take this step without Bluekens EV. It is a major player in the transport world, the organization has enormous expertise in the field of electric transport and we are assured of aftercare and maintenance. All this gives a lot of confidence.” Practical in city centers

A host of innovative features inherent in the BYD ETM6 eTrucks make them the ideal zero-emission vehicles to meet environmental targets, while also being highly safe, quiet and practical for use in high-density city centers. Powered by BYD's Iron-Phosphate Battery technology, the BYD ETM6 zero-emissions truck offers the longest range, 200km with a full charge, in the market in its 7.5-tonne category, as well as extended battery life and high security level.

Flying doctors

Gert-Jan Jonker, general manager of Bluekens EV, says: “The BYD ETM6 is perfect for use in emission-free city logistics. Compared to an electric truck, this model drives smoothly, has a long range for everyday use, a low TCO and fast charging technology. But in addition, smart solutions for the charging infrastructure at TDS were also considered in the preliminary phase. As a result, a construction has been developed at one location, for example, so that the surplus of solar energy from the solar panels can be used for charging. Bluekens EV also takes care of the fleet management, which relieves TDS. It is our job to monitor the fleet, keep it running and provide insight into costs. The uptime of the vehicles should be as high as possible. In the event of a breakdown, we contact the driver and help him or her back on the road quickly. We try this by telephone, otherwise our flying doctors, flying mechanics, will quickly arrive on site to solve the problem.”

Pioneer electric vehicles

TDS – a joint venture of logistics service providers Holwerda Transport, Transportbedrijf P.A. van Rooyen and Brakenhoff Transport – has been pioneering electric vehicles for some time. More than a decade ago, for example, Brakenhoff Transport used the Hytruck, an electric truck for moving and transport. A number of smaller electric vehicles are also being used. Wissink: “There is an increasing need from the customer for electric transport. This trend has been going on for some time. In addition to the use of the BYD ETM6, the partners in TDS will drive large electric vehicles of 16 tons. As a transporter you automatically go along with such developments, but we try to anticipate.”

BYD eTrucks

Mahmut Mobassit, eTruck Director, BYD Europe BV, on the partnership: We are proud that a well-known party like TDS has chosen BYD eTrucks and also the role they will play in providing such an important zero emission delivery service for IKEA in Amsterdam. Quiet, clean and safe, our BYD eTrucks embrace the new era of electrically powered commercial transportation, without compromising on performance, efficiency and applicability. Together with our partner in the Netherlands, Bluekens EV, we are pleased to support TDS with a comprehensive after-sales service and fleet management solution to continuously improve efficiency, in the knowledge that our eTrucks are environmentally friendly.”
